Project 2: Process

Image
After my initial concept, I decided to change it a bit. I had thought about how if this item was to be used with the focus on the desktop purpose, would it get in the way if it was placed on the desk itself? I then thought about placing it on the wall to solve this issue and eventually had the idea of making a pegboard organizer and adapting my concept to it. The idea, while solving the issue, also held a lot of my initial concepts when it came to storage, displaying, and customization. I played around with the idea of using organic shapes and with these shapes being a bit more unconventional but functional to hold whatever a person would want to display or for storage. I also wanted the pegboard to mimic these organized shapes rather than just a straight edge square. I thought it would make the item consistent as well as visually interesting. I also thought about if the user could r...

Bonus Post: I, Object Gallery Pick

Image
At the Gallery, I had a lot of fun looking at the various things students have made in their object design classes.  I found this clock by Isabelle Ostermann very interesting to me. I really like the intricate design and the detail of the flower opening as the clock spins. This shows that the person put a lot of thought and detail into this project, which is amazing to see.

Project 2: Revisted Bespoken Project...

For this project, I decided to approach my shelf concept again. I thought it would be interesting to try and approach the same concept but do a complete 180. I thought about approaching this project more by highlighting the functions of a shelf rather than the design of it and how it could benefit me.  Aspects of this shelf I am thinking about include: Be used on a desktop - avoids the work of putting it on a wall, can function for desktop purposes like holding pens or paper, etc Travel/moving capability - since it's not on a wall and is on a desk, it can be conveniently removed from a space to be put in another space, or rough for travel Can be used as storage -  Depending on the design I choose, I want to add on to the moving capability and have the shelf double as a way to store items Can be easily assembled: Might be in easy-to-assemble pieces or collapsible Here are some sketches: For materials, I am thinking about doing 3D printing as I can control the thicknesse...

Bespoken Project: Final Shelf and Final Thoughts

Image
Using a different type of wood and a bit of the Trolase acrylics, I was able to assemble my shelf: For what to display on my shelf, I decided to use some items from my crystal collection. They are something that I collect and love to display, as I find crystals really nice to look at and make my space feel comfortable to me. Having a shelf to display them almost elevates them and brings attention to them in my room like this. I also realized I could use the stars on the platform as a hook for the jewelry that I had, which almost, in a way, integrates the items more with the shelf and also adds to how this shelf displays my items. FINAL THOUGHTS: I like how this shelf came out. I really like my design and some of the choices I made, especially when it came to the platform of the shelf.  I was surprised at how sturdy it was, with the platform remaining stiff and holding up pretty well! It did not break when I put my collection on it.  I wish I had pushed it more when it ca...
