Ah... The Bespoken Object of Mine Heart....!

I had taken OBDF 301, and my last project was a travel-sized chessboard. It had several interconnected parts, and it got me thinking about doing a project building more on that. These interconnected parts could be parts that slide into each other to make the project or use different fabrication processes to make parts that come together to form the project.

For my bespoken object, I mostly thought of things that I wanted for myself. It would be unique to me, as it would be an object that fulfills my own needs and/or aesthetics.

Here are several sketches that I have created:

SKETCH 1: DISPLAY SHELF
I wanted to own a small shelf to display some of my small collectibles or crystals, and I realized I could just make it myself. I want it to have a design and then have small trailing things at the bottom of it. The design I have depicted could change depending on if I choose this as my project, but I would have to manage things like weight and keep in mind structural supports. I would maybe be using the laser cutter for this as I am interested in using wood and acrylic, I could also potentially use the 3D printer...

SKETCH 2: FIDGET CREATURE
I tend to like to fidget with things, as it helps me focus at times or with restlessness. I have several things that I use to fidget with,  it would be fun to maybe make my own as there are a handful of fidget toys created using the 3D printer. One challenge would be fabricating it with the printer, and I would have to do a lot of research on how to make movable joints and such. I would want the creature to be a bit wacky and silly, as I enjoy silly little things.

SKETCH 3: SET OF UNIQUE PLANT POTS
Another item I want is various interestingly shaped plant pots. I own a bunch of plants, so it would be handy to have more pots and as well make them more interesting to look at. The sketched design will probably change if I choose this idea as I want to play around with some things. I could play around with how it holds the dirt and plant if the shape is unconventional or the placement of drainage holes. I think for this concept, I could use primarily the 3D printer as I can do a lot of push and play with that. My only concern would be if the material is safe with water and if it actually holds things well, and I could maybe work around it if this concept is doable.

SKETCH 4: TREE NECKLACE HOLDER
Something I debated on owning is some sort of necklace display holder thing. If I choose this concept, I could play around with parts that slide into each other while maybe playing with various textures to make up the tree. I would have to keep in mind the weight, as it could potentially flop over, and the relative size of it. I don't mind making this on either Rhino and 3D printing it or lasercutting wood. Or perhaps I could do both and combine them.
