Bespoken Project Process 1

I decided to go forward with my shelf concept from the last post. I developed it more on paper, wanting it to be centred around the sun and moon, with the concept of an eclipse.

With this, I also wanted the shelf to be inspired by the Art Nouveau style, using organic and swirl-like forms.

I began drawing out my shelf on Rhino and making a rough 3D model of it in the program to test out my ideas as I wanted to make sure they were feasible. I could also check if the proportions were right. I plan on laser-cutting this project after all, and I want to make sure everything works. I would also work on adjustments on paper before making them on Rhino when I modelled, and working like this also helped me come up with new ideas. For example, this process made me realize I would like to add an aspect of layering to this project and experiment with it.

My next step once I complete the design, is seeing how to make them link together. I am thinking about having the parts be able to push into each other and add glue in between for stability. I think I would have to perform tests to see how big or small I have to make these pieces, and I'll try to get a prototype cut out so that I can see what parts of the design are working or not.
