Project 2: Final

I had thought that last week was our last class, however, it wasn't! So, with this in mind, I tried to create the pencil holder... however...

As I mentioned in my last post, my experience with the minis is a bit hectic. Whenever I tried making something with a lot of parts and was small, for some reason, when putting it through the Prusa Mini it would end up like this. I even tried putting a brim on the ones that would end up not printing out right but it would end up like this. This got in the way of my process a lot, unfortunately.

I'm not sure what I did in my files that ended up making it out this way, and Peter even said there was a lot of risk when printing on the minis with a lot of parts. Since I mainly worked with the Prusa XL, especially in my previous Object Design class last semester, this was a bit of a hassle to work with as I felt like the XL would be able to do the things I wanted... That being said, I could have used the XL, but a lot of people would be using it at the time and it would be booked out, so I had to use the minis..

I wish I was able to figure out a way in which my things would print correctly because, after a lot of failures, it was honestly quite frustrating

On the bright side, here is the process of the final product being hung up:

And here's the product in use!

Reflection:
  • I like how I adapted and developed my initial concept into something that retains my initial ideas and amplifies them.
  • I like how I was able to experiment a bit more with organic shapes, especially using them to make unconventional yet somewhat functional shelf displays. I wish I pushed it a bit more, but due to the availability of materials and printers and the errors I faced on top of the amount of time, I wasn't able to.
  • I wish I was able to put more into this project like stuff that can hold stationary items like a pencil holder, but again due
  • When putting the boards up, I sort of wished it was bigger, or perhaps I had more varied sizes, which might be fun and add more to the customization aspect of the object
  • The way in which I implemented the parts that would make the pegboards hang, it was functional! However, it isn't as stable as I would like it to be. I found that maybe even having it be supported by nails/screws alone would be fine too, and felt more stable.
  • It was honestly really fun having the shelf parts be unconventional. It makes putting things up and makes you think about how to display it and what you can get away with it. It made me pleasantly surprised to see how I could make things fit.
