Unrolling Objects

Image
For this in class assignment, we learned how to unroll objects. This would make the surfaces of the shape 2D, allowing us to understand how to make these shapes if we were to print these out to use as templates.

Papercraft Concepts

Image
Thumbnail Concepts:  For these thumbnails, I tried to think of things that I liked. Some aren't necessarily objects, as I have some animal forms here, but are forms I feel are important to me. Chosen Concepts: I chose this biker helmet design as it is based on a helmet for a character I designed. This character means a lot to me and I think their design is fun, so I thought making this helmet for this project would be fun too. This object can also represent the significance of my own creative endeavours. I was thinking of possibly making this helmet life-size to that of actual helmets so that you can wear it, though, I don't mind if it may be smaller in scale than I imagine if not possible.  I chose this concept of headphones as my headphones are a significant object in my life. Wherever I go, I have my headphones with me and on me blasting tunes as I enjoy music. My headphones help me calm down, focus, or think. I chose this concept of a fantail goldfish because I have...

Papercraft Inspirations

Image
For this papercraft assignment, I am inspired by the works of Zim & Zou.  These artists consist of two French artists who studied graphic design. Using primarily paper, they focus on creating installations of 3D objects, forms, and spaces. They also use things like wood and thread, sometimes incorporating them into their paper-based projects. They choose paper as a medium as these artists love the versatility of the medium as it is very easily moulded into whatever these artists desire. Paper as a medium also provides different colours for them to create things. These artists put a lot of planning and meticulous care when creating these 3D objects. It seems that they work on the flats of the objects before piecing them together to make them 3D. The artists also Use tools like an Exacto knife, giving them clean cuts and more control on cutting paper. What I like about this artists' work is the use of vivid colours in their work. I personally have been trying to experiment ...

Hollow Objects

Image
For this project, I learned of new tools to create more organic 3D forms. The tool I mostly used for the creation of these 10 hollowed objects is loft and sweep rail, allowing me to create these organic forms. It was fun creating these forms and meshing them together with more geometric ones to juxtapose them together. With these two things combined, I think they created interesting shapes and forms for these hollowed forms. This was a very interesting project for me as I got to experiment with creating more rounded and shapely organic forms rather than purely solid geometric ones.

Final Remix Object

Image
My partner was supportive of the sketch I used for my final design. They thought it was inventive as the abstraction of the bird by combining it with a lamp reminded them of heating lamps for chickens. It didn't really affect much of my decision to make this my finished piece as I was pretty dead set on doing this sketch as my final draft beforehand, but it was very interesting hearing what this sketch reminded them of. My creation relates to Remix Culture. It relates to this culture as the process of taking already existing media and combining them together to create a new creation. The models used within this piece are not made by me and were instead taken from the site: Thingiverse. I just combined these items together. This act of combining in itself is also another characteristic of Remix Culture. I combined them in order to juxtapose the mechanical parts of the desk lamp and the biological body of a bird. The idea behind the desk lamp is also juxtaposed, as it now relates to...

Remix Objects

REMIX CULTURE: Remix culture is the act of combining two or more already existing media and combining them together to create a new form of media. This is most shown within remixed songs, which may take snippets from one song and incorporate it into their own song. This form of art-making often calls into question this culture's copyright laws and the possible violation of them, as this form of art-making is taking already existing media to create something new with it. Oftentimes, this art culture uses this use of intellectual properties to make statements.  REMIXED OBJECTS:   Gee Bee Airplane by skipstitch - Thingiverse DesktopHero3D Wings by onebilliamdollars - Thingiverse For this plane object, I specifically wanted to combine something organic and something non-organic. I took a model of a plane and replaced its wings with bird wings to portray this as they both share the concept of flight, but are different in design and function to achieve flight. Chicken by bobtato - ...
